Nikhil Sablania was born in New Delhi in 1979, India. His father died in a road accident before his birth. His mother joined government services and raised him as a single parent. He was very active in dance, drama and paintings during his school years. His uncle had a video library at home in 80s and he watched any movie that he could get. His inclination to arts and family environment lead him to choose movies as a career. He started his journey with theater in Delhi. His first learning was under his mentor Late Mr. Yasin Khan. He also studied Psychology from University of Delhi. During his college years he wrote and directed many plays. After graduation he prepared for film schools and got admission in the ‘Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute’ (S.R.F.T.I), Kolkatta. There he studied film and TV direction and screenplay writing from 2003 to 2007. His diploma film, Siski (The Sigh) was selected at various film festivals in England, China, Spain and Estonia. He also went to Beijing Film Academy (B.F.A) for attending 9th International Students Film and Video Festival (I.S.F.V.F). After film institute he joined a famous film writer and director in Mumbai. He worked on various projects such as TV shows for Star One, documentary films for Doordarshan, corporate films etc. Then, he directed his first Hindi feature film, Checkmate. The film got good response on internet. Then he directed a documentary film on water crises in India, Thirsty City. This film was screened at prestigious Zaragoza Environmental Film Festival in Spain. Later he joined the new age social media wave and created video content for YouTube. So far he has created more than three hundred videos for internet viewership. He also studied Law from University of Delhi for better awareness of legal aspects of work. In 2014 he also contested for Lok Sabha Election. He has written around twenty screenplays for movies and more than fifty articles on various social and economic issues. As a writer he has translated documentary films for Japanese TV and B.B.C. TV. Presently he is working on new scripts for feature films.
